Mid-Michigan Teen Challenge History

The beautiful ministry of Teen Challenge grew from a coffee house outreach known as SAGINAW YOUTH OUTREACH. This program was organized by a group of concerned citizens who were alarmed by the large crime rate in saginaw and the surrounding area. From a small downtown storefront, Simon Rodriguez created and directed an outreach that focused on christian counseling and referral. The following year, community grounds, our named changed to the NICKY CRUZ OUTREACH OF MICHIGAN in 1973. After a gang member who was transformed by the love of Jesus. A rapidly developing ministry used the gospel of Jesus Christ to evangelize young drug addicts and people living on the streets.

In 1974 we merged into the national organization of Teen Challenge thus becoming Teen Challenge of Saginaw gaining the benefit of a large network of people working together for the love of God.

Just over ten years later, Rev Salvador and Alicia Flores felt a deep burden for a women's ministry and made this vision a reality with the purchase and renovation of a Woman's center on N Michigan AVE. However, due to a growing need and limited bed space, our pastor felt the need for a larger haven.

In the late nineties provision was made through grants from foundations, businesses, and area churches to purchase the present location of our women's center at 818 s Michigan AVE, debt free! After extensive renovations. This newly redesigned mansion with classroom space offices and a computer lab was opened in January 2000.

Today, thanks to your support, MID-MICHIGAN TEEN CHALLENGE BIBLE INSTITUT enjoys a beautifully landscaped campus setting on on entire city block where 35 students receive the love and restoration of Jesus Christ with tender touch.

Our Future Prayers include the acquisition of a new men's facility, fully equipped with residential living, educational and recreational facilities under our roof. Fatefully, we move in unison with God to provide a safe and loving environment for people needing help. In return, the radiance of restored individuals blessed and beautifies our community.
